(Revelation 2-3) Scholars have long felt that the seven Churches in the Book of Revelation were or are descriptive of the seven distinctive historical phases of the Church's development over the last two thousand years. This is probably quite accurate, but more importantly, it also serves to illustrate the Seven Step Process comfortably. That is why we will use it as our first example. |

1. INITIATES: Jesus establishes His Church on the earth. ( 1st century) 2. SEPARATES: He sets aside for his purposes as the Church is greatly persecuted, cleansed. (2nd century) 3. SEED / WORD: Doctrine begins to crystallize. The Orthodox Church is the seed for the Roman Catholic Church. ( 3rd century ) 4. EARLY HARVEST: A largely corrupt Catholic Church reigns upon the earth for a season. (4th - 16th cent.) 5. AWAKENS: Martin Luther proclaims new freedoms of worship. Protestantism stirs. ( 16th century ) 6. REDEEMS: Process is completed. A personal relationship is restored with God through Jesus His Son. ( 20th century ) 7. GOD RESTS: Having accomplished his purpose on earth as well as in Heaven. (21st century) True to God's timeless seven step plan, the Church appears to be evolving right on schedule. Unfortunately the description of the Laodicean Church is all too accurate. |
